Raif joined cash security information campaign

Raiffeisen Bank became a partner of all-Ukrainian information campaign on cash security «Anatomy of hryvnia», launched on July 7 at initiative of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The aim – to teach Ukrainians how quickly check the authenticity of hryvnia banknotes and remind the population which banknotes and coins are in circulation and which are no longer accepted for payment.

As part of this information campaign, the National Bank and its partners will inform Ukrainians where to exchange the withdrawn, worn-out, damaged, doubtful banknotes and coins, as well as to tell about protection of national currency.

Despite the proliferation of non-cash payments, cash remains widespread in Ukraine, so both protection and reliability of cash currency shall always be the focus of central bank.

«The protection system of hryvnia is at high level and corresponds to protection systems of the world's leading currencies. The Ukrainian hryvnia has innovative security features allowing you to verify simply the authenticity of the banknote both visually and tactilely. You just need to know what to look for. In our information campaign, we remind Ukrainians about the simple rules of cash security», – noted Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Oleksiy Shaban.

He explained that the level of counterfeiting of national currency banknotes remains consistently low. In 2020, 1 million of real hryvnia banknotes accounted for about 5.5 counterfeit banknotes. As to compare, in the European Union this figure was three times higher last year and amounted to about EUR17 banknotes.

At the same time, most of the counterfeit banknotes withdrawn from circulation are of low quality. They are printed on printers and aimed at inattentive citizens and cashiers. «We are convinced that the best protection against receiving counterfeit money is the awareness of Ukrainians. Accordingly, we want to tell every citizen some simple rules that will help to verify the authenticity of Ukrainian money easily», – said the Deputy Governor of the National Bank.

In addition to training of cashiers in banks, post offices, shops, gas stations and pharmacies, the National Bank is launching a special web page (landing) called «Anatomy of hryvnia» with answers on popular questions about secure cash payments.

The information campaign «Anatomy of the hryvnia» will last during July-September 2021 in all regions of Ukraine. It is supported by both Cyber Police and Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine.

«In order to prevent Ukrainians from getting into unpleasant situations during their daily cash payments, Raif decided, together with the National Bank and other partners, to remind everyone how to detect counterfeit banknotes and what coins and banknotes are accepted for payment. Awareness and attentiveness, as always, are the best in counteracting possible fraud», – said Lilia Zubareva, Director of Communications and Public Relations at Raiffeisen Bank.
